The administration conducted a large-scale anti-encroachment drive on the busy Station Road in Bakhtiyarpur, removing illegal roadside shops, handcarts, rickshaws and temporary structures following directions from the Sub-Divisional Magistrate.

Joint Operation by Civic and Police Authorities

Acting on the instructions of the SDM, a joint team comprising the Municipal Council, circle administration and police cleared illegal establishments along the road. Several encroachers were fined on the spot during the operation.

Encroachments Disrupted Traffic Movement

Station Road is a key route connected to the railway station and witnesses daily movement of thousands of passengers and local residents. For several months, temporary shops, vegetable and fruit carts, tea and paan kiosks, and tin-shed structures on both sides of the road had severely affected traffic. Ambulances and emergency services were repeatedly caught in traffic congestion, creating critical situations.

Prior Notice Issued Before Action

Officials stated that notices had been issued to encroachers prior to the drive, and announcements were made through public address systems warning them to remove the encroachments voluntarily. After the deadline expired without compliance, the joint team initiated action. Temporary structures were demolished using a JCB machine, footpaths were cleared and goods spread across the road were seized.

Police Deployment During the Drive

A heavy police force was deployed to prevent any disorder or resistance. Some shopkeepers opposed the action and demanded alternative locations, expressing concern over the impact on their livelihood. The administration stated that encroachment on public roads would not be permitted under any circumstances, but consideration was being given to providing vending zones for small traders in accordance with regulations.

Residents Cite Persistent Traffic Congestion

Local residents said traffic congestion on Station Road had been worsening. School buses, autos, e-rickshaws and private vehicles were often stuck for hours. Pedestrians were forced to walk in the middle of the road, increasing the risk of accidents. Following the drive, the road appeared wider and clearer, and traffic resumed normal movement.

Administration Signals Continued Monitoring

The municipal administration stated that the drive was not a one-day formal exercise and that regular inspections would be conducted to maintain order and ensure smooth traffic flow. Legal action and heavy fines will be imposed on those found re-encroaching.

Officials appealed to residents not to occupy roads and footpaths and to cooperate in maintaining a clean and orderly urban environment. The action in Bakhtiyarpur indicates continued strict measures against illegal encroachments, with similar drives likely in other major market areas in the coming days.
