Air India Flight AI-171 Crash: CEO Addresses Preliminary Report Findings

In the Air India flight AI-171 crash, CEO Campbell Wilson stated that according to the investigation report, there were no technical faults in the aircraft, nor were there any maintenance issues. The investigation into the causes of the accident is still ongoing.

Ahmedabad Plane Crash: Air India CEO Campbell Wilson has now commented on the incident of Air India flight AI-171, which was en route from Ahmedabad to London on June 12. He stated that according to the preliminary report released by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), there were neither any maintenance issues nor any technical faults found in the engines of the aircraft.

What the report says

The preliminary report by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau clarified that the fuel supply to both engines of the aircraft was cut off at the time of the accident. This was possibly the reason why the aircraft crashed within a few seconds. Furthermore, it was revealed that the engine fuel control switches were turned off, leading to the disruption of fuel supply.

Aircraft and crew conditions were also normal

CEO Wilson informed that the aircraft had completed all mandatory maintenance work and no abnormalities were recorded before takeoff. The fuel quality was found to be correct, and the pilots had also passed the breathalyzer tests before the flight. Their medical examinations also did not reveal any cause for concern.

Air India CEO's appeal

Wilson said that the report does not mention any cause or recommendation. In light of this, he urged everyone not to jump to conclusions prematurely. He stated that Air India has conducted a thorough inspection of the aircraft in its entire fleet and has not found any operational problems.

Boeing 787 declared safe for operation

Wilson stated that, with utmost care, every Boeing 787 aircraft included in the airlines' fleet has been thoroughly inspected. All aircraft were found suitable for operation. He clarified that it is not necessary to remove these aircraft from operation at the moment.

AAIB recommendations

The AAIB's investigation report has not recommended any immediate action against either the Boeing 787-8 or the GE GNX-1B engine operators. The report is currently in the process of identifying the potential causes of the accident.

275 people died in the accident
