Central Home Minister Amit Shah will visit Tripura on June 5 to review key aspects of border security in the state and participate in programmes related to several development projects, Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha said on Tuesday.
According to the Chief Minister, the Home Minister’s itinerary will focus on border security arrangements, infrastructure and tourism development in the state.
During the visit, Amit Shah is expected to review security measures along the India-Bangladesh border. The Central Government has been placing emphasis on strengthening the smart border fencing system in Tripura, Assam and West Bengal.
Sources indicated that the Home Minister may also inspect border areas to assess the ground-level security situation. The initiative is aimed at ensuring effective control over infiltration, smuggling and other illegal activities.
The state administration is making preparations for a possible inspection in West Tripura and Sepahijala districts, although the final programme has not yet been officially confirmed.
Amit Shah will also participate in the foundation stone-laying ceremony of a proposed five-star hotel project at the historic Pushpabanta Palace in Agartala, which was previously used as the Raj Bhavan.
The project is intended to promote tourism in Tripura and develop international-standard hospitality facilities. The state government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tata Group for the project.
Officials said the project is expected to help attract investment and create new employment opportunities in the state. The plan seeks to transform the historic building into a modern tourism facility under a heritage tourism model.

At the meeting, the Chief Minister will highlight policy reforms and opportunities aimed at promoting investment in the North East. He said the focus will be on creating a more favourable business environment and attracting private investors.
He added that ongoing work in areas such as infrastructure development, connectivity and technological innovation will also be presented. The progress report of the Tripura Space Application Centre (TSAC) will be shared during the meeting.

The Chief Minister will also highlight efforts being undertaken through the centre to promote technological innovation and digital governance in the state.
The plan to convert Pushpabanta Palace into a five-star hotel is aimed at strengthening Tripura’s tourism sector. The project is expected to support luxury tourism and contribute to the local economy.
According to officials, Amit Shah’s visit forms part of efforts focused on strengthening border security while advancing development and investment in the North Eastern states. The Central Government has been implementing special development initiatives for the region, which it considers strategically and economically significant.
