The Bihar Assembly elections 2025 are moving beyond mere speculation and beginning to manifest as concrete indications. The latest program issued by the Election Commission regarding voter list revision provides a clear signal that the announcement of the Bihar Assembly elections could be made in the first week of October, with the polling process likely to conclude by mid-November.
Election Commission Heightens Activity: Voter List to be Ready by September 30
The Election Commission has announced the commencement of a special voter list revision process in Bihar, starting from July 1st. This process will be conducted across the entire state from July 1st to September 30th. Subsequently, the final voter list will be published on September 30th. Senior sources within the Commission indicate that, following established tradition, the election notification is typically issued within a week of the final voter list publication. Based on this, it is estimated that the official announcement of the election could occur in the first week of October.
Elections Possible by Mid-November
The current term of the Bihar Assembly expires on November 29, 2025. Consequently, the Commission is working on a plan to hold elections in a timely manner, to avoid the need for a premature imposition of President’s Rule in the state. If the election schedule is announced in the first week of October, the entire process – including nominations, scrutiny, name withdrawal, and polling – can be completed by mid-November. Following this, the process of forming the new government will commence.
Bihar Assembly elections 2025 are also considered significant due to:
- Both the NDA and INDIA alliances are staking their reputations.
- The ruling alliance suffered a setback in the recent Lok Sabha elections, while opposition parties performed better.
- The test of the BJP-JDU coalition, led by Chief Minister नीतीश कुमार, will once again be undertaken.
- Meanwhile, opposition parties, including RJD and Congress, are strategizing to return to power.
With this announcement from the Election Commission, political parties have also accelerated their preparations. The BJP has initiated worker training and the reorganization of booth committees at the district level. Conversely, RJD, Congress, and left-wing parties are formulating their election strategy based on the key issues of ‘unemployment, inflation, and corruption.’
