Bihar Voter Verification: A thorough voter list verification drive is underway in Bihar ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. So far, around 88% of the voters have submitted their enumeration forms. As a result of this process, the names of approximately 3.5 million voters are likely to be removed. The Election Commission is conducting a final, large-scale campaign to include all eligible voters. The draft voter list will be published on August 1st.
Voter List Revision in Final Stage
The comprehensive revision and verification campaign of the voter list, conducted in Bihar in preparation for the assembly elections, has now gained momentum. With the campaign starting on June 24, 2025, only 11 days remain until its completion. During this time, the Election Commission has received enumeration forms from 66,067,208 people out of 79 million voters. This means that approximately 88 percent of the voters have completed the verification process.
Over 3.5 million names likely to be removed
According to the current data, approximately 3,569,000 voters' names are likely to be removed from the voter list during verification. Two rounds of door-to-door surveys conducted by the commission have revealed several key findings:
- 1.59% of voters were found to be deceased.
- 2.2% of voters have permanently changed their address.
- 0.73% of voters were found to be registered at multiple locations.
Combining these three categories, a total of 4.52% of voters were found to be ineligible, totaling approximately 3,569,000.
Rapid updates on digital platforms
More than 57.4 million enumeration forms have been uploaded to the Election Commission's website so far. This figure indicates that people are actively participating through online platforms. This initiative has brought transparency and speed.
11.82% of voters still awaiting verification
Although this process is largely complete, approximately 11.82 percent of voters have yet to submit their enumeration forms. The Commission aims to ensure that no eligible voter is left out of the list. Therefore, a third phase of door-to-door survey is being launched, involving more than one lakh Booth Level Officers (BLOs).
Support from political parties is also being received
Around 1.5 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs) from political parties are also playing an active role in the Election Commission's campaign. With their help, the Commission aims to complete the verification work before the final deadline.
Special camps in urban areas
The Commission is organizing special voter camps in 5,683 wards of 261 urban local bodies in Bihar. The purpose of these camps is to enable voters who have not yet submitted their forms to complete the process on the spot. At the same time, it is also being ensured that no eligible voter's name is missed.
Special initiatives for people who have gone outside the state
Special awareness campaigns are also being conducted for voters who are temporarily outside Bihar. This allows them to receive timely information and submit their enumeration forms online or through other means. The Commission is striving to ensure the participation of every voter in this democratic process.
Draft voter list to be released on August 1st
According to the commission, the draft voter list will be released on August 1, 2025, after the entire process is completed. This list will be made public in all districts and assembly constituencies so that any errors or omissions in names can be rectified in a timely manner. The final list will be published before the upcoming elections.
