The BJP has raised the political temperature in West Bengal's Birbhum district ahead of the assembly elections. In the Itahat Cooperative Society elections, the BJP defeated the Trinamool Congress by winning all nine seats. This area was considered a bhold of the TMC, but in this election, the BJP strengthened its hold and achieved victory throughout the region. The performance of the Left parties in this election was also very weak, and they did not get a single seat. The BJP considers this a sign of a big victory for the upcoming 2026 assembly elections.
Enthusiasm among BJP workers due to election results
In the election held among 928 voters in the Itahat area of Sainthia, the BJP, Trinamool Congress, and Left parties participated. As soon as the election results were announced, the success of the BJP was clear, while the hold of the TMC and Left parties weakened. This victory has boosted the enthusiasm of BJP workers, and the party considers it a major proof of its lead in the assembly elections. Local BJP leaders are also seeing this performance as the increasing popularity of the party in the region.
Crushing defeat for TMC
The BJP, through a Facebook post, claimed a political awakening in Birbhum, expressing confidence in forming the government in the 2026 assembly elections. In the Itahat Cooperative Society elections in the Mayureswar assembly constituency, BJP-supported candidates won all nine seats, giving a major blow to the Trinamool Congress. Shyampada Mandal, the president of the Bolpur organizational district of the BJP, said that this bhold of the Trinamool has already been broken and its hold is now almost over. He alleged that the Trinamool had misused the police in several places to obstruct the voting process, but wherever voters could vote freely, the party faced defeat.
In the last Lok Sabha elections, the Trinamool had captured both seats in Birbhum and won 10 out of 11 seats in the 2021 assembly elections. However, this new election result has proved to be a major victory for the BJP, strengthening the party's preparations for the 2026 assembly elections. The BJP believes that the party's hold in the Mayureswar area will increase, and they will return to power in Bengal in 2026.
