CDS General Anil Chauhan stated that drones are the future of warfare. The Indian Army thwarted Pakistan's move in Operation Sindoor. He emphasized the need for indigenous technology for a self-reliant India.
New Delhi: During an event held at the Manekshaw Centre, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Anil Chauhan, said that drones have become game-changers in modern warfare. Even small drones can alter the outcomes of battles. He clarified this with the example of Pakistan's use of drones in Operation Sindoor and India's precise response.
General Chauhan said that our army has effectively responded to challenges such as drones and loiter munitions. He explained that Pakistan had sent unarmed drones and loiter munitions into Indian territory during Operation Sindoor on May 10, but the Indian Army had neutralized them using both kinetic and non-kinetic methods.
Indian Army's precise strategy in Operation Sindoor
CDS Chauhan said that Operation Sindoor demonstrates that India's security strategy is no longer based solely on conventional weapons, but is also focused on smart technology. He mentioned that the drones sent by Pakistan neither caused any damage to the army nor to any civilian infrastructure.
Emphasis on the need for indigenous technology
On this occasion, the CDS also cautioned against excessive reliance on foreign technology. He made it clear that if India remains completely dependent on foreign technology for its security needs, it could pose a serious threat in the future.
Develop technology suitable for India's terrain
General Chauhan also said that India needs to develop indigenous Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and Counter-UAS (C-UAS) systems according to its defense needs. He said that India's geographical location, strategic needs, and security challenges are different, therefore, technology is needed that is suitable for our conditions.
New technology is changing the way of warfare
General Chauhan explained that warfare is no longer limited to land, air, or sea. In today's battles, the role of technologies like cyber attacks, drones, and AI has increased rapidly. He said that the way small drones can outsmart the enemy's strategy makes it clear that technology will be the biggest power of the future.
The CDS also said that India needs to make rapid changes in its defense policy. He urged the private and public sectors to jointly invest in indigenous defense technologies and accelerate production.
