Chambal River Flooding Submerges Villages in Morena, India: Rescue Operations Underway

The rising water level of the Chambal River has wreaked havoc in the Morena district. On Thursday morning, the river's water level reached 142.60 meters, with a further increase of 5 centimeters, causing several villages in Sabalgarh, Morena, Ambah, and Porsa tehsils to be submerged. In the lower areas, water has entered homes, completely disrupting daily life. The standing Kharif crops in the fields have been destroyed, and villagers have been forced to leave their homes and move to safer locations.

Rescue Operations Intensified

Seeing the seriousness of the situation, the administration has intensified relief and rescue operations. SDRF teams have safely transported more than half a dozen pregnant women to safer places, while people from more than a dozen villages have been evacuated and shifted to temporary safe houses. Food and other necessary arrangements are being made in these safe camps through the Gram Panchayats. The administration has appealed to the villagers to avoid going near the river and to contact them immediately in case of any emergency.

Water Flowing 5-7 Feet Above Old Bridge

Due to heavy rains in the Rajasthan border area, the water level of the Chambal River has risen rapidly. In the Rajghat area of Morena, the river water is flowing about 5 to 7 feet above the old bridge, creating an atmosphere of fear and tension in the surrounding villages. Although some villagers were seen playing with children and bathing animals in the floodwaters, on the other hand, young people were seen risking their lives in the b current while trying to extract firewood. This situation remains a matter of concern for the administration.

Water Released from Kota Barrage

According to the reports of the Meteorological Department and the administration, an average of 708 mm of rainfall has been recorded in the district in 60 days of this monsoon season, which has crossed the normal figure. At 2:30 pm on Thursday, approximately 35,000 cusecs of water was released into the Chambal River by opening three gates of the Kota Barrage in Rajasthan. Its effect is expected to be visible in the next 24 hours. Due to this, the Chambal water has spread in Gadhia Raipur, Khurd Raipur, Khoh Bijla in Mahua police station area, and Bhup Ka Pura, Sahas Ka Pura and Kachhipura villages in Nagra police station area. With water filling the fields and houses, the crops have been completely destroyed, causing heavy losses to the farmers.

Damage to Household Goods

In the villages where water has reached the houses, there has been a great loss to household goods as well. The administration has evacuated people from these areas and taken them to safer places, where arrangements are being made for accommodation, food, and health services. Meanwhile, the humidity has increased due to the light sunshine amidst the clouds, due to which people are troubled by the heat and humidity. The administration is constantly monitoring the situation and is fully alert to deal with any emergency.
