China and India Respond Firmly to Trump's Tariff Threats

Beijing has given a blunt response to the tariffs imposed by Trump on India and the threat given to China. China has said that the policy of pressure will not be beneficial, and they will not compromise their national interests.

Trump Tariff: Tensions between the United States and China over tariffs and energy policy have once again escalated. US President Donald Trump has directly targeted both China and India. Trump has warned that if China continues to purchase oil from Russia, heavy tariffs will be imposed on it. Reacting to this, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said that China will ensure energy supply in accordance with its national interests and will not bow to any pressure.

Guo emphasized that there are no winners in tariff wars. No party benefits from coercion and pressure. He also clarified that China is fully prepared to defend its sovereignty, security, and development interests.

Announcement of 25% Tariff on India

While the US is targeting China, India has also been hit. Trump has announced a 25 percent tariff on India, which will be effective from August 1, 2025. This decision could sour trade relations between India and the United States.

Donald Trump, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), said that India is our friend, but questions arise regarding its high tariffs, purchase of military equipment and energy from Russia. Based on this, Trump not only announced a 25 percent tariff on India but also spoke of imposing an additional penalty.

Response from the Indian Government

Following Trump's announcement, the Indian government immediately responded. In a press release, the government said that it is taking the US statement seriously and is studying its effects. The government clarified that all necessary steps will be taken to protect national interests.

According to Indian government sources, high-level meetings have begun on this issue. The Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of External Affairs are jointly preparing to assess the impact of the US decision and formulate a strategic response.

Manish Tewari's Taunt

Congress leader and former minister Manish Tewari also reacted to Trump's decision. He said that this strictness of the US reflects the strength of a self-reliant India. According to Tewari, India's foreign and trade policy does not operate under any pressure. If India has to bear tariffs, it will be the result of its independent policy, which does not depend on the policies of the US or any other country.

Trump's Strategy

In such a situation, Trump's strategy is to separate India from the influence of Russia and China. He wants India to work under US leadership and distance itself from Russia. But India's foreign policy is based on a 'stand alone' approach, which considers its national interests paramount. India has so far purchased oil from Russia at cheap rates and considers it a matter of energy security. This stance of India may cause differences with any American administration, be it Trump or Biden.

China's Blunt Response

Chinese spokesperson Guo Jiakun also said that the US policy of pressure is neither logical nor effective. He reiterated that China will continue its strategy of buying oil from Russia, as it is a matter related to its energy needs and long-term interests. Guo said, 'No side wins in tariff wars. Coercion does not lead to any solution. China will take every necessary step to protect its sovereignty, security, and development.'
