Dehradun Cloudburst: A cloudburst incident occurred late at night in Sahastradhara, a famous tourist spot in Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand. Heavy rainfall led to an atmosphere of chaos in the area. The district administration promptly initiated a rescue operation and evacuated nearby residents to safer locations. Several shops were washed away in the incident, resulting in losses amounting to lakhs. Currently, two people are reported missing, and teams from SDRF and NDRF are searching for them.
Administration Took Immediate Command
Upon receiving information about the incident, District Magistrate Savin Bansal took charge of the situation overnight. He alerted all concerned departments and dispatched rescue teams to the scene. SDRF, NDRF, and the Public Works Department commenced relief and rescue efforts with the assistance of JCBs and other heavy machinery. The administration is currently on high alert and continuously monitoring the situation.
Chandrabhaga River in Spate, People Rescued
The impact of the cloudburst in Dehradun was also felt in the surrounding areas. The Chandrabhaga River in Rishikesh swelled, and its waters reached the highway. Three people stranded in the river were safely rescued by an SDRF team.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami Expresses Grief
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep sorrow over the incident. He stated that information had been received about damage to shops due to excessive rainfall in Sahastradhara. The CM assured that the district administration and rescue teams were actively working at the site and that he himself was closely monitoring the situation. He prayed for the safety of everyone involved.
Holiday Declared in Schools
In view of the heavy rainfall and the disaster situation, the District Magistrate declared a holiday in all schools from Class 1 to 12 in Dehradun. Due to continuous rain since late at night, roads in IT Park and surrounding areas experienced waterlogging. Many vehicles were seen being swept away like toys in the b currents.
Bridge Damaged and Debris Accumulation
A bridge near Fun Valley and Uttarakhand Dental College on the Dehradun-Haridwar National Highway was damaged. The Tamsa River is also in spate. Between 1 to 2 feet of debris accumulated in the Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple complex, causing significant damage to the premises.

Several shops along the riverbank in Sahastradhara were completely washed away due to the heavy rain and b currents. This disaster has resulted in economic losses worth lakhs. However, a major tragedy was averted due to the swift action of the administration and the evacuation of people to safer locations during the night.
