Maharashtra Rain: A cloudburst-like incident occurred in the Nanded district of Maharashtra on Monday. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis reported that extremely heavy rainfall in Mukhed taluka has led to flood-like conditions in several villages. NDRF and SDRF are on the ground, conducting relief and rescue operations. The CM stated that crops in some areas have also suffered severe damage.
NDRF Assistance in Rescue Operations
The Chief Minister said that 206 people have been safely evacuated from the Ravangaon area. Local authorities and security forces have delivered relief supplies to the affected areas and relocated stranded individuals to safer locations. Girish Mahajan, Maharashtra's Emergency Management Minister, reported that red and orange alerts have been issued in several districts. Military assistance has also been sought where necessary.
Special Vigilance in Monitoring Water Levels and Dams
The Chief Minister reported that river water levels have risen in various parts of the state. Special attention is being paid to the Amba-Jagbudi and Vashishti rivers. The status of the Vishnupuri and Isapur dams is being monitored. An orange alert has been issued in Gadchiroli and Chandrapur, with the possibility of more rain in the coming two days.
Warning for Farmers
CM Fadnavis stated that crops on more than 1 lakh hectares have been damaged. In the Amravati division, it is estimated that approximately 2 lakh hectares of agricultural land have been affected. Farmers are advised to remain vigilant and take appropriate steps to protect their crops and property.
Impact of Rain in Surrounding Cities
Mumbai also recorded heavy rainfall. Some areas of Mumbai received more than 170 mm of rainfall in the last six hours. Chembur recorded the highest rainfall at 177 mm. Local trains were not suspended, but their speed was reduced, and many trains were delayed.
Instructions for Citizens for Vigilance
The CM appealed to citizens to exercise special caution. He said that people should avoid going to areas with high water levels and follow the instructions of the authorities if necessary. The ministry allowed employees to leave for home early in the afternoon and issued a special warning in the evening due to the high tide.
Possibility of Rain in the Coming Days
According to the Meteorological Department, heavy rainfall is likely to continue in many parts of Maharashtra between August 18 and 21. Districts such as Nanded, Jalgaon, Beed, Parbhani, and Latur need to remain vigilant. The CM said that all necessary arrangements have been made in advance, and rescue teams are constantly monitoring the situation.
