Delhi-NCR Receives Much-Needed Rain, More Expected in Coming Days

The rain on Saturday brought significant relief from the humidity and intense heat to people in Delhi and the entire NCR region. Residents in the national capital and surrounding areas had been eagerly awaiting the monsoon rains.

Weather: The downpour on Saturday afternoon in Delhi-NCR provided much-needed respite from the humidity and scorching heat that people were enduring. Residents of the national capital region had been anxiously waiting for the monsoon showers, and their wait finally ended. As the rain began, people in Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, and Faridabad breathed a sigh of relief.

Heavy rain began in several areas of the capital, Delhi, after 3 PM on Saturday, accompanied by thunder and lightning. Rains lashed areas including RK Puram, Palam, Central Delhi, Dwarka, and Hauz Khas. According to the weather department's data, 10 mm of rainfall was recorded in Palam, 5 mm in Ayanagar, 5 mm in Zafarpur, 3 mm in IGNOU, 7 mm in Pushp Vihar, 12 mm in Faridabad, and 11 mm in Gurugram. The impact of the rain was also seen at Indira Gandhi International Airport, where passengers were seen running for cover.

Alert for more rain in the next 2 days

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for Delhi-NCR for June 28 and 29. The department said that light to moderate rain is expected in the next 48 hours, accompanied by thunder and lightning. Strong winds, with speeds of 40–60 kilometers per hour, may also occur in some areas.

A heavy rainfall warning has been issued for Zafarpur, Najafgarh, Dwarka, Palam, IGI Airport, Vasant Kunj, Malviya Nagar, Mehrauli, Kalkaji, Chhatarpur, IGNOU, Ayanagar, and Deramandi in Delhi. There is also a possibility of lightning with b winds in these areas. Similarly, areas like Mundka, Paschim Vihar, Rajouri Garden, Patel Nagar, ITO, India Gate, Nehru Stadium, and Lajpat Nagar will also experience heavy rain and winds of 30–50 kilometers per hour.

Possibility of rain in NCR and nearby cities

Rain is also expected in Bahadurgarh, Gurugram, and Faridabad in the NCR, as well as in Rohtak, Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri, Rewari, Nuh, and Aurangabad in Haryana. Good rainfall is also likely in Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Khurja, Mathura, Firozabad, Shikohabad, Tundla, and surrounding areas of Uttar Pradesh. There is also an estimated chance of thunderstorms with rain in areas like Alwar, Bharatpur, Dholpur, Bhiwadi, Kotputli, and Khairthal in Rajasthan. The weather department has advised people to remain cautious, especially in areas with a possibility of lightning.

Weather will become more active on June 29

On June 29, the weather department has predicted thunderstorms and light to moderate rain throughout the day. The maximum temperature during the day is likely to be around 33 degrees and the minimum around 26 degrees. On June 30, it will be cloudy with light rain, but no warning has been issued. On July 1, light rain is also expected with thunderstorms, but no warning has been issued. There is a possibility of rain in some places on July 2 and 3 as well, and the temperature may remain between 33–35 degrees Celsius.

Active weather systems in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh

The weather department stated that a low-pressure area formed in the northwest Bay of Bengal is active near the coastal areas of Odisha and West Bengal, which is moving west-northwest. Due to this, rain activities may intensify in Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh. A trough line passing from the northeast Arabian Sea, connecting Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh to the Bay of Bengal, is active, leading to the possibility of good rainfall in these states as well.

Rainfall continues in Rajasthan

Rainfall was also observed in many districts of Rajasthan. On Friday, 27.8 mm of rain was recorded in Alwar, 18.6 mm in Jodhpur, 18 mm in Sikar, and 9.2 mm in Kota. 130 mm of rainfall was recorded in Sajjangarh in Banswara district, and 110 mm in Bassi of Jaipur, Sallavapat of Banswara, and Veja of Dungarpur. Sriganganagar was the hottest with 39.3 degrees, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 20.3 degrees in Sirohi.
