The weather in Delhi-NCR is likely to change today, July 28th. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast, light to moderate rain is expected in the capital region today, along with warnings of thunderstorms and lightning.
Delhi-NCR Weather Update: There is good news for the people of Delhi and NCR (Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad). People suffering from prolonged humidity and heat are about to get relief from monsoon showers. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning in Delhi-NCR on July 28th and 29th, 2025.
A change in the weather was observed in Delhi from Monday morning. Light showers were recorded in some areas. During this time, the minimum temperature was around 27 degrees Celsius. Weather experts believe that the next 48 hours could be very important for the capital and its surrounding areas from a monsoon perspective.
Depression in the Bay of Bengal Caused the Rain
According to the Meteorological Department, a depression (low pressure area) formed in the Bay of Bengal is now slowly moving towards the northwest. The impact of this will be seen in Delhi-NCR on July 28th and 29th. The rainfall in many parts of North India for the past few days is a result of this system. Now, this system will cross the southern regions of Delhi and move towards the northeast, which may increase the intensity of rainfall.
Weather expert Mahesh Palawat has also confirmed this change. He wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "Delhi, get ready for good rain on July 28th and 29th." He said that this LPA system could bring back the monsoon-like effect in Delhi's weather.
Temperature on Sunday was Higher than Normal
On Sunday, July 27th, the maximum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 37.5 degrees Celsius, which was 2 degrees above normal. On Monday, this temperature is expected to decrease to 34 degrees, while the minimum temperature will remain around 27 degrees. The relative humidity was recorded at 59% at 5:30 pm on Sunday, which may increase further on Monday.
Along with Delhi, areas of NCR such as Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad are also likely to experience light to moderate rain. There is also a warning of heavy rain and lightning in some areas. Citizens are advised to avoid going out in the open and not stay in unsafe places.
Improvement in Air Quality Expected
The most positive impact of the rain can also be seen on the air quality. On Sunday at 4 pm, Delhi's AQI (Air Quality Index) was recorded at 87, which falls in the 'satisfactory' category. Classification of AQI levels:
- 0–50: Good
- 51–100: Satisfactory
- 101–200: Moderate
Due to rain and humidity, pollution particles can settle on the ground, which is likely to further improve the AQI.
