Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh has reacted to recent developments involving the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the politics surrounding the INDIA bloc. Expressing surprise over the situation within the TMC, he said it was noteworthy that such circumstances had emerged in a party that has remained in power for many years.
Ahead of the proposed INDIA bloc meeting, Singh commented on the West Bengal ruling party, stating that the TMC’s relationship with the opposition alliance has always been somewhat distinct.
Responding to recent developments within the TMC, he said he was surprised that such a situation had arisen in a party that has been in government for a long period. However, he refrained from making any detailed political remarks on the matter.
Discussion has also intensified around the proposed INDIA bloc meeting in New Delhi, with continued speculation over the participation of various opposition parties.
Singh indicated that maintaining opposition unity remains important under the current political circumstances. He said the alliance is not a platform for any single party but represents the collective political outlook of multiple opposition parties.
He also responded to questions regarding the participation of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in the meeting. Singh said the DMK has bly supported the INDIA alliance since its inception and has maintained positive political relations with the Congress.
According to Singh, the DMK should continue as part of the INDIA alliance because it is a shared ideological platform rather than an alliance centered on a single political party. He said all constituent parties have an important role in the platform formed in opposition to the policies and ideology of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Alongside his political remarks, Singh also raised concerns regarding issues related to the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET). He said he had written to the Prime Minister seeking the publication of detailed information on cases of paper leaks and irregularities reported in various competitive examinations.
Singh said several examinations have witnessed allegations of irregularities and paper leaks in recent years. He called for the issuance of a white paper detailing the status of investigations, identification of those responsible, and actions taken in such cases.
Political activity has intensified ahead of the INDIA bloc meeting as statements and positions taken by various alliance partners continue to attract attention. The roles of major parties, including the TMC, DMK and Congress, are being closely watched.
