The District Magistrates of Jaunpur, Kasganj, and Barabanki have refuted the allegations made by Akhilesh Yadav regarding irregularities in the voter list during the 2022 Assembly elections. All three DMs clarified on social media that the removal of names from the voter list was carried out according to established procedures.
Lacknow: In response to the allegations made by Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav, the District Magistrates of Jaunpur, Kasganj, and Barabanki issued clarifications on Tuesday via the social media platform 'X'. Yadav had alleged discrepancies in the deletion of names from the voter list during the 2022 Assembly elections. The DMs stated that the names of voters that were removed either belonged to deceased individuals or were duplicates present on the list. Meanwhile, Akhilesh Yadav retorted to the Election Commission, stating that the commission cannot shield itself by pushing the DMs forward.
District Magistrates Issue Clarifications
The DM of Kasganj, Pranay Singh, stated that a complaint was received regarding the names of eight voters in the Amanpur Assembly constituency. The investigation revealed that seven names were duplicates and one voter had passed away. Therefore, action was taken according to the rules.
The DM of Jaunpur, Dinesh Chandra, also clarified that the five names that were removed belonged to individuals who had passed away before 2022. This fact was confirmed by their families and local residents.
The DM of Barabanki, Shashank Tripathi, said that the names of two voters in the Kursi Assembly constituency are still registered in the voter list, and the allegations are baseless.
Akhilesh Yadav's Retort
Following the responses from the District Magistrates, Akhilesh Yadav once again placed the Election Commission under scrutiny. He stated that the commission is trying to evade its responsibility by putting the District Magistrates forward. Akhilesh alleged that officials are being used as shields to hide the truth.
Yadav claimed that his party had submitted approximately 18,000 affidavits regarding the removal of names from the voter list. Despite this, the BJP government and the commission have not provided a satisfactory response to even one of them. He said that this is a serious matter and should be investigated impartially.
Questions for the Election Commission
Akhilesh Yadav challenged the Election Commission, asking the District Magistrates to prove the authenticity of the death certificates cited for removing names from the voter list. He questioned why it took the officials three whole years to provide clarification if the SP's allegations were false.
