Gorakhpur Junction Descends into Chaos as Dual Train Arrivals Overwhelm Foot Overbridge

Chaos erupted at Gorakhpur Junction as two trains arrived simultaneously, overwhelming the foot overbridge and leading to panic among passengers. Read about the half-hour disruption and demands for railway improvements.

Gorakhpur. Chaos erupted at Gorakhpur Junction on Wednesday when two trains arrived simultaneously on platforms number 3 and 4. Passengers disembarking from both platforms began moving towards the foot overbridge at the same time, leading to a sudden massive crowd gathering on the bridge.

The Clone Special Express for Delhi arrived on Platform 3, while passengers disembarking from the already-stopped Maurya Express on Platform 4 were already heading towards the bridge. The situation worsened when crowds converging from two directions met, leading to many people being jostled and pushed.

Women, children, and the elderly were extremely distressed due to the sudden surge in the crowd. Some panic-stricken passengers even attempted to cross the railway tracks. Disarray persisted on the platform and overbridge for about half an hour.

Passengers stated that space is already limited due to the removal of the old foot overbridge and ongoing new construction work. In such a situation, the simultaneous arrival of two large trains makes crowd management difficult.

Following the incident, passengers demanded improvements in platform allocation and crowd management to prevent similar situations in the future. Railway officials deployed additional staff to control the crowd and assisted in clearing the overbridge.
