Gujarat ATS Arrest: In a major operation, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of Gujarat has arrested a female suspect with links to Al-Qaeda from Bengaluru. The woman has been identified as 33-year-old Shama Parveen, originally a resident of Jharkhand. According to police, Shama Parveen was operating an Al-Qaeda terrorist network in Bengaluru and coordinating the organization's activities online.
Arrested from Bengaluru, Major Success for ATS
Shama Parveen was arrested on Tuesday, July 29, 2025. She was living with her younger brother in the Manorayanapalya area of Bengaluru. The ATS discovered Shama's role based on leads obtained from interrogating four previously arrested terrorists. This arrest is considered a significant achievement for the Gujarat ATS.
Home Minister Calls Her a Dangerous and Radical Woman
Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi told the media that Shama Parveen is a woman with a highly radical ideology. She was in contact with terrorists in Pakistan and was running an active online module, through which she was inspiring youth towards extremism. He said that the woman's network was very active on digital platforms.
Case Uncovered Following Arrest of Four Al-Qaeda Terrorists
Earlier on July 23, the Gujarat ATS arrested four terrorists of Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS). These arrests were made from Delhi, Noida, Ahmedabad, and Modasa. The names of the arrested terrorists are:
- Mohammad Faik (from Delhi)
- Mohammad Fardin (from Noida)
- Seifullah Qureshi (from Ahmedabad)
- Zeeshan Ali (from Modasa)
All of them were between 20 and 25 years old and were planning a major terrorist attack. According to the police, these individuals were connected to each other through social media and were exchanging radical ideas online.
Why Shama Parveen's Role is Important
ATS investigation revealed that Shama Parveen was not only in contact with these four terrorists, but she was also the main operator of this module. Her job was to exchange terrorist messages and recruit new members through social media and encrypted messaging apps. Several sensitive documents, chat records, and radical material have been recovered from her laptop and mobile.
Bengaluru: A Digital Hub of Terror
According to information, Parveen had been living in Bengaluru for the past three years. Her younger brother has a job in the city, and she herself was unemployed. Neighbors said that she mostly stayed at home and did not interact much with the locals. The ATS also suspects that Parveen was trying to make Bengaluru an operational base for Al-Qaeda.
Success Achieved Through ATS's Digital Tracking
The Gujarat ATS stated that they tracked Parveen's activities through digital footprints and social media activity. She came to the attention of the agencies due to repeated contact with radical content and suspicious accounts.
Pakistani Connection Confirmed
The Home Minister of Gujarat also said that Parveen's contact with terrorist organizations based in Pakistan has been confirmed. The ATS report states that she was taking instructions from handlers in Pakistan and following their instructions in India.
