Heavy Rains Trigger Alerts in North India: Flood Threat Looms in UP, Bihar, and Delhi

The monsoon, active across the country, is now showing its fierce form. Many states in North India, such as Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, and Punjab, have been severely affected by torrential rains, disrupting normal life.

New Delhi: The active monsoon in the country has once again begun to show its fierce form. Many states in North India—Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh—are experiencing disruptions to daily life due to heavy rainfall. The water level of rivers is rising rapidly, and the threat of flooding looms. Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 'Red Alert' and 'Orange Alert' for July 25.

Alert for Heavy Rain and Lightning in 18 Districts of Uttar Pradesh

According to IMD Lucknow, a warning has been issued for July 25, indicating the likelihood of torrential rainfall accompanied by lightning and b winds in 18 districts of Uttar Pradesh. The districts for which the warning has been issued are:

  • Lucknow
  • Jhansi
  • Ayodhya
  • Basti
  • Pratapgarh
  • Hamirpur
  • Varanasi
  • Sant Kabir Nagar
  • Chitrakoot
  • Jaunpur
  • Mau
  • Ghazipur
  • Chandauli
  • Sonbhadra
  • Ballia
  • Banda
  • Mahoba
  • Lalitpur

Citizens of these districts are urged to avoid open areas, maintain distance from electricity poles, and stay updated with weather-related information. Farmers are also advised not to venture into fields during electrical activity.

Possibility of Heavy Rain in 12 Districts of Bihar

IMD Patna has also predicted the possibility of heavy rainfall in 12 districts of Bihar on July 25. These districts may experience waterlogging, flooding, and inundation of low-lying areas. The districts placed on alert are:

  • Jehanabad
  • Munger
  • Sheikhpura
  • Jamui
  • Banka
  • Bhagalpur
  • Lakhisarai
  • Katihar
  • Nalanda
  • Gaya
  • Khagaria
  • Begusarai

The state administration has placed the concerned district administrations on alert and activated relief and rescue teams. Farmers and the general public in rural areas are urged to stay away from riverbanks and waterlogged areas.

Heavy Rain and Flood Threat in Delhi

The national capital, Delhi, is also likely to experience heavy rain and thunderstorms with lightning between July 25 and 27. The Meteorological Department has informed that the water level of the Yamuna River has reached close to the warning level, raising concerns about flooding in some low-lying areas. The state government has established relief camps in flood-prone areas, and NDRF teams have been kept on standby. People are urged not to go near the Yamuna River and to follow the guidelines issued by the administration.

In Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, landslides are increasing in the hilly areas due to continuous heavy rainfall. Vigilance has been increased regarding the Char Dham Yatra. In Haryana and Punjab, the water level of rivers is also approaching the danger mark, leading to waterlogging in low-lying areas.
