Government Monitoring the Severity of COVID-19

Officials from the Ministry of Health and ICMR are continuously monitoring the situation. Sources say that the situation is currently under control, and there is no need for patients to panic. The severity of the infection is not high, and most patients are undergoing treatment in home quarantine. The hospitalization rate is also low.

Dr. Rajiv Bahl, Director-General of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), stated that genome sequencing of samples collected from the western and southern parts of the country has revealed that the current cases are linked to subvariants of the Omicron variant. These include subvariants named LF.7, XFG, JN.1, and NB.1.8.1. Among these, LF.7, XFG, and JN.1 are the most prevalent.

No Need to Panic, but Vigilance is Essential

Dr. Rajiv Bahl emphasized that the risk of infection due to these variants is not as severe as before. While an increase in cases is being observed, there is no need to panic. We must remain vigilant and avoid any negligence. Wearing masks, maintaining hand hygiene, and avoiding crowded places are still crucial.
