India Raises Domestic LPG Price by ₹60 and Commercial Cylinder by ₹115 Amid West Asia Tensions

Rising military tensions in West Asia involving the United States, Israel and Iran are beginning to impact global energy markets, with supply disruptions affecting oil and gas flows and influencing prices in several countries, including India.

Amid these developments, prices of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders in India have been increased. The price of domestic LPG cylinders has been raised by ₹60, while commercial cylinders have become costlier by ₹115.

The increase in prices is expected to affect household budgets as well as operational costs for businesses that rely on LPG.

Energy experts attribute the emerging global energy supply concerns partly to rising tensions around the Strait of Hormuz. The maritime corridor is regarded as one of the world’s most critical routes for the transportation of oil and gas.

Military tensions in West Asia have affected the movement of vessels passing through the region, increasing uncertainty around the supply of crude oil and gas in global markets. Countries such as India, which depend heavily on energy imports to meet domestic demand, are expected to experience direct impacts from such disruptions.

Following the price revision, the cost of the 14.2-kilogram domestic LPG cylinder has changed across several cities in India.

In New Delhi, the price of a domestic cylinder is approximately ₹913. In Mumbai, the price stands at about ₹912.50. In Jaipur, the cylinder is available at roughly ₹916.50, while in Lucknow the price is around ₹950.50. Patna records the highest price among the listed cities, where consumers are paying about ₹1002.50 per cylinder.

Prices also vary across other major cities. In Kolkata, the domestic LPG cylinder is priced at approximately ₹939, while in Chennai it costs about ₹928.50.

In Gurugram, the cylinder is available for around ₹921.50 and in Bengaluru the price is about ₹915.50. Chandigarh has a comparatively lower price of approximately ₹862.50.

In Noida, consumers are paying about ₹910.50 per cylinder, while in Bhubaneswar the price is around ₹939. In Hyderabad, the domestic LPG cylinder price has reached about ₹965, while in Thiruvananthapuram it is close to ₹922.

Along with domestic cylinders, prices of commercial LPG cylinders have also been increased. The 19-kilogram commercial cylinders are commonly used by hotels, restaurants and small commercial establishments.

In New Delhi, the price of a commercial LPG cylinder is now about ₹1883. In Mumbai, it is priced at roughly ₹1836. In Kolkata, the cylinder costs around ₹1988.50, while in Chennai the price has reached approximately ₹2043.50.

The increase in commercial cylinder prices could raise operating costs for hotels and restaurants, potentially affecting food prices.

The government has also introduced a change in LPG cylinder booking rules. Earlier, consumers could book a new cylinder 21 days after the delivery of the previous one. The waiting period has now been extended to 25 days.

According to the government, the change has been implemented to maintain balanced gas supply and ensure timely delivery of cylinders to all consumers.

The government and oil companies have stated that the country has adequate supplies of gas and oil. Officials said there is no need for consumers to pay attention to rumours regarding shortages.

Authorities said that energy supply is being continuously monitored and necessary steps are being taken to ensure smooth availability.
