India Squad for Ireland, England Series and Asian Games 2026 Expected to Be Announced Today

The BCCreland and England limited-overs series and the 2026 Asian Games. Discussions over the T20 captaincy, including reports linking Shreyas Iyer and current captain Suryakumar Yadav, are among the key talking points ahead of the official announcement.

The Indian team for the Ireland and England tours, along with the squad for the 2026 Asian Games, is expected to be announced today following a meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee in Mumbai.

The selection committee, led by chief selector Ajit Agarkar, is currently meeting in Mumbai. An official announcement is expected to be made at a press conference at the BCCI headquarters later in the day.

The selection committee is expected to announce two separate squads simultaneously:

India will play two T20 Internationals against Ireland on June 26 and 28. This will be followed by a series against England beginning on July 1, comprising five T20 Internationals and three One-Day Internationals.

A separate squad will be selected for the 2026 Asian Games, as the deadline for team selection for the tournament has already been fixed.

One of the major points of discussion is the captaincy of the Indian T20 team. The future of current T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav is expected to be reviewed by the selection committee.

According to sources, the team management is considering Shreyas Iyer as an alternative for the role. Iyer is being viewed as a leading candidate for the captaincy, particularly because of his leadership record in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Several factors are being cited in support of Iyer’s candidature. He has led Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings to IPL finals. Under his captaincy, Kolkata Knight Riders won the IPL title in 2024. He is also the only captain to have guided three different teams to IPL finals. His batting and leadership performances under pressure have been noted, strengthening his position as a contender for the T20 captaincy.

Reports also indicate that the selection committee may discuss not only the captaincy but also Suryakumar Yadav’s place in the team. A decline in his form in recent months has been cited as a reason for these discussions. However, there has been no official confirmation from the BCCI regarding these matters.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia is also expected to be present at the meeting alongside Ajit Agarkar. Following the completion of the selection process, the squads for both the bilateral series and the Asian Games are expected to be announced at a press conference.

India’s upcoming limited-overs series against England is being regarded as significant. The series is being viewed as part of preparations for upcoming major ICC tournaments.

Team combination, the selection of new players and decisions regarding captaincy are expected to play a role in shaping the direction of Indian cricket in the period ahead.
