A 32-year-old social media influencer from Jodhpur, Rajasthan, is undergoing treatment in hospital after allegedly consuming poison during an Instagram Live broadcast. The incident has drawn attention to allegations of online trolling, threats and mental harassment on digital platforms.
According to information available, the influencer had shared a video on Instagram and Facebook around 15 days ago in which she expressed her views on issues related to clothing and social attitudes.
Following the video, she reportedly faced extensive trolling on social media. Several users allegedly posted objectionable comments against her, and personal attacks were also reported. Allegations have also been made that she received threats as the controversy escalated beyond online discussions.
The influencer has alleged that a group including six men and two women had been continuously attempting to defame her. According to her, the dispute was not limited to social media and also involved an older land-related dispute and personal rivalries.
Reports indicate that tensions linked to a land dispute had existed previously between the parties, with allegations of physical altercations having surfaced in the past. The influencer also alleged that she had received serious threats and had been repeatedly targeted with accusations affecting her character.
Before the incident, she shared several emotional posts on social media in which she appeared in tears. In those posts, she alleged that she was being deliberately defamed and subjected to mental harassment.
In one video, she stated that it becomes extremely difficult for a woman to maintain her dignity in society when allegations are made publicly against her and she is subjected to trolling.
The incident occurred while she was broadcasting live on Instagram. During the live session, she spoke about the alleged harassment and mental pressure she said she had been facing.
Thousands of viewers were reportedly connected to the live broadcast. During the session, she allegedly consumed poison, after which her condition became critical and she was taken to hospital.
Following the incident, she was admitted to Mathuradas Mathur Hospital in Jodhpur, where doctors continue to monitor her condition. According to hospital authorities, she received emergency treatment and remains under medical observation.
The influencer’s husband has made allegations that she had been continuously harassed by some local influencers and certain family members.
He also claimed to possess threatening messages and chat records and has sought an investigation into them. According to him, his wife was subjected to mental harassment, which contributed to the deterioration of the situation.
Police have launched an investigation into the case. According to police officials, social media posts, the live video and other digital evidence are being collected and examined.
Investigators are also assessing whether any threats, cyber harassment or organised trolling took place. Police are further examining whether the matter is solely related to a social media dispute or whether older personal or family-related disputes are also connected to the case.
The incident has renewed discussion around the impact of online trolling and cyberbullying on mental health. Experts have stated that sustained attacks on digital platforms can place individuals under severe psychological stress.
