A woman teacher was murdered in Kanpur, triggering concern in the area after police alleged that the accused was a long-time acquaintance of the victim and that the two had shared a friendship spanning nearly 18 years.
According to the preliminary investigation, the accused woman allegedly arrived wearing a burqa to conceal her identity before entering the teacher’s residence. Police claim that after the murder, an attempt was made to flee with gold jewellery worth approximately Rs 10 lakh, including a gold bracelet and a chain.
Police and forensic teams reached the scene after receiving information about the incident. Evidence was collected from the location, and investigators began examining footage from nearby CCTV cameras.
During the investigation, police also reviewed the past relationship and recent contacts between the victim and the accused.
According to Uttar Pradesh Police officials, investigators are attempting to reconstruct the sequence of events using available evidence, CCTV footage and statements obtained during questioning.
Police said the actual motive behind the murder and the full extent of the alleged conspiracy can only be determined after a detailed investigation is completed.
Local residents said the two women had known each other for many years, making the incident particularly surprising for those familiar with them.
Residents said the end of such a long-standing friendship in this manner was both shocking and tragic.
Police are currently examining all aspects of the case. Investigators are gathering facts related to the motive for the murder, the alleged theft and the accused’s role in the incident.
