Kolkata Law College Gang-Rape: Security Guard Arrested, NCW Raises Concerns Over Police Handling

Fourth Arrest in Kolkata Law College Gang-Rape Case: Security Guard Apprehended. NCW Questions Delay in Medical Examination and Police Inaction.

Kolkata Gangrape Case: In the gang-rape case of a law student at a law college in the Kasba area of Kolkata on the evening of June 25th, a fourth suspect has been arrested. Kolkata Police apprehended the college's security guard on Tuesday. Three students had been arrested earlier. The investigation so far has revealed that the accused guard not only witnessed the incident but also played a significant role in it.

How the Crime Was Committed

The victim told the police that she was leaving the college premises after a student organization meeting. During this time, the four accused forcibly dragged her to the guard room. There, one accused raped her while the other two aided him. The fourth accused, the guard, watched the entire incident and instead of stopping it, remained silent and cooperated. The victim said that she repeatedly pleaded with the accused, held their feet, but they showed no mercy.

Three Arrests Already Made

Immediately after the incident, the victim, showing courage, filed an FIR. The police, acting promptly, arrested three students and presented them in court. The court sent all three accused to police custody for four days. The police are now questioning the security guard to understand whether the incident was pre-planned or spontaneous.

NCW Raises Questions About Police Action

Archana Majumdar, a member of the National Commission for Women (NCW), has raised serious questions about the Kolkata Police's handling of this sensitive case. She stated that she has been trying to stay in contact with the police, but is not being provided with clear information. She also alleged that there has been a deliberate delay in the medical examination.

Controversy Regarding Medical Examination

The NCW member stated that the victim was first taken to the Calcutta National Medical College, but no medical examination was conducted there. Then, it was said that she would be taken to NRS Medical College, but the situation there was also unclear. Archana Majumdar says that this lax approach by the administration is delaying justice for the victim.

A Similar Case Has Occurred Before

The NCW fears that this case might turn out like the RG Kar Medical College case, where there was a deliberate delay in the investigation and medical processes to suppress the case. The commission has made it clear that it will take every possible step in favor of the victim.
