Kolkata Law College Gang Rape: Charge Sheet Filed Against Four Accused, Including Ex-TMCP Leader

Police have filed the charge sheet in the Kolkata Law College gang rape case. The main accused, Monojit Mishra, is a former president of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad.

Rape Case: In a major development in the gang rape case of a student at Kolkata Law College, investigating agencies have filed a charge sheet against all four accused in the Alipore court. The case has raised serious questions about the college administration, student organizations, and law and order.

Charge Sheet Filed in Court

The charge sheet was filed on Saturday in the court of the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Alipore. It names a total of four people, including the main accused, Monojit Mishra. Mishra is a former student of the college and had been working as a temporary employee at the college since 2024.

Serious Charges Leveled Against Accused

According to police officials, the accused face several serious charges, including gang rape, kidnapping, wrongful confinement, destruction of evidence, misleading the investigation, and conspiracy to commit the crime. All the accused are currently in judicial custody.

Incident Occurred on June 25

The case dates back to June 25, when a first-year student was allegedly gang-raped by Mishra and his two accomplices, Jaib Ahmed and Promit Mukherjee, inside the South Calcutta Law College campus. The incident raised questions about the security arrangements and administrative responsibility on the college campus.

Action by College Administration

Following the incident, the college administration took immediate action and expelled the accused students, Jaib Ahmed and Promit Mukherjee, from the college. Mishra was already working as a temporary employee.

Main Accused Linked to TMC Student Council

Monojit Mishra is a former president of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) unit of the college. However, the TMCP claims that Mishra has had no connection with the organization for the past two years. Due to this political connection, the case has also taken on a political hue.

How the Fourth Accused Was Apprehended

The three main accused were arrested on June 26. The next day, the college's security guard, Pinaki Banerjee, was also arrested. He is accused of not helping the victim and allowing the accused to use the room on the premises.

Demand for Justice for the Victim

The victim's family and college students have demanded strict punishment for the accused. They say that such an incident in a place considered as safe as a college has raised questions about everyone's safety.

The police say that technical, scientific, and circumstantial evidence has been collected in this case. The charge sheet has been filed based on this evidence. Now the trial will take place in court, and efforts will be made to deliver justice to the victim.
