IT Department Seizes ₹100 Crore Benami Properties of BBD Group in Lucknow

The IT Department in Lucknow has seized benami property worth 100 crore rupees belonging to the BBD Group. These lands were in the names of Dalit employees, while the real owners are Viraj and Alka Das.

UP News: In a significant action, the Income Tax Department in Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh, has seized benami properties worth 100 crore rupees belonging to the BBD Group. This action was taken under the Benami Property Prohibition Act, 1988. The operation was carried out in prominent locations in Lucknow, including the Ayodhya Road and surrounding areas.

Land purchases were made between 2005 and 2015

According to official information, these lands were purchased between 2005 and 2015. The total area of these properties is approximately 8 hectares, and they are located in villages such as Uttardhauna, Juggaur, Terakhas, Sarayshekh, and Semra. Rapid urbanization is taking place in all these areas, which has also significantly increased the value of these properties.

Properties were purchased in the names of Dalit employees

The detailed investigation by the Income Tax Department revealed that these lands were registered in the names of Dalit employees of the BBD Group. The investigation also found that these employees were not capable of purchasing properties of such value. No valid source of income was found for these employees that would have made the purchase of such large properties possible.

Who are the real owners of the properties?

The investigation clarified that the real owners of these properties are Alka Das, a key figure in the BBD Group, and her son, Viraj Sagar Das. However, the properties were registered in the names of two companies: Viraj Infratown and High-Tech Protection India Private Limited.

Key lands on Ayodhya Road seized

The seized properties include several prominent plots of land located on Ayodhya Road. These plots are in the rapidly developing areas of Lucknow. Currently, large-scale construction work is underway on these plots by the BBD Group. It is believed that these properties were part of the group's various real estate projects.

Action taken after months of investigation

The Benami Prohibition Unit conducted a detailed investigation and data collection for several months before taking this action. During the investigation, it came to light that most of the properties were in the names of individuals whose income was inconsistent with the value of the properties. The Income Tax Department considered this a benami transaction and initiated the seizure action.

This entire action has been taken under the 'Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Act, 1988'. Under this act, all properties can be seized that have been purchased by the real owner in someone else's name and the buyer has no financial capacity to purchase the property.

What is the Benami Property Law?

The Benami Property Act of 1988 aims to prevent individuals from purchasing properties in the names of others to convert black money into white. If the real owner of a property is someone else and the name on the documents is of another person, and that person is not capable of buying the property, then it is considered a benami property.
