Crime News: A shocking incident has come to light from the Parsa police station premises in Chhapra district, Bihar, where a young man committed suicide by hanging himself with a doormat rope inside the police station. It is reported that the young man was brought there by his parents with the intention of his "reformation," but he was found hanging from a window shortly after. This incident has caused shock and concern throughout the area, while the police are investigating the matter.
What is the full story?
The deceased has been identified as Sonu Yadav (age 24), a resident of Bakhtiarpur, Parsa. According to his family, Sonu had fallen into bad company for several months and had become addicted to drugs. He used to quarrel at home and had previously been jailed on charges of theft. On Wednesday morning, his parents brought him to the Parsa police station hoping that the police's strictness would deter him. The police seated him in an empty room so that his parents could speak to the officers. A short time later, Sonu used a rope from a doormat in the room to create a noose and hang himself from the window grill.
Police negligence or a tragic circumstance?
According to police sources, Sonu was not arrested for any crime, so he was not kept in custody. He was brought to the station at his parents' behest. He was not handcuffed or monitored within the station. This allowed him to commit suicide within moments. The Station House Officer, Pankaj Kumar, stated, “The young man seemed mentally distressed, but we did not anticipate such an action. Orders for an investigation have been issued.”
Parents' Heartbreaking Grief
Sonu's mother, Bindu Devi, collapsed, while his father, Surendra Yadav, said, "We brought him here to reform him; how were we to know he would leave this world before our very eyes?" They accused the police station of negligence in monitoring and demanded a fair investigation. According to locals, Sonu had previously been apprehended in cases of eve-teasing and theft. He had been released from jail some time ago but had again fallen into drug abuse. His reputation in the village was not good, but his parents had not given up hope.
The Need for Mental Health Support
This incident highlights the serious mental health situation in rural Bihar. Where drug abuse, unemployment, and anti-social elements lead young people astray, there are neither counseling facilities nor guidance for families. Police stations also need sensitivity and prompt intervention in such cases.
Saran SP Gaurav Mangla, considering the seriousness of the matter, has ordered a magisterial inquiry. The security arrangements of the police station premises and the allegations of the family are also being thoroughly reviewed.
