Pakistan Suspends Mobile, Internet Services in Capital Amid TLP Protests and Clashes

Pakistan's Sharif government has temporarily suspended mobile and internet services in the capital Islamabad and Rawalpindi in view of the Tehreek-e-Labbaik protests.

Pakistan: Pakistan's Sharif government has banned mobile and internet services in the capital Islamabad and Rawalpindi. This measure was taken in response to protests by Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP). The TLP called for a 'Labbaik Ya Aqsa Million March' on Friday, in anticipation of which the city's entry and exit routes were sealed and security forces deployment was increased.

TLP's Protest

The TLP has planned to protest against Israel outside the American Embassy in Islamabad. The government ordered the internet shutdown, considering it a threat to public safety and law and order. Police and security forces are fully alert in view of the demonstration.

Violent Clashes in Lahore

Violent clashes erupted between police and TLP activists in Lahore when Punjab Police raided the TLP headquarters to arrest its chief, Saad Hussain Rizvi. Following this action, violence escalated, and several people were injured. Police reported five constables injured, while the TLP claimed one of its activists died and 20 were injured. During the clashes, TLP activists attacked police with stones and iron rods.

Heavy Police Deployment

A large number of police and security forces have been deployed at the TLP headquarters and surrounding areas. Officials state that this deployment is aimed at maintaining law and order and security. A TLP spokesperson called the government's action disgraceful and demanded an end to the oppression of their activists.

Role of the Punjab Government

The TLP alleges that the Punjab government, which includes Maryam Nawaz's party, took stringent measures to curb the protests. This move by the government is seen as an attempt to control TLP's political and social activities.
