Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge criticized शशि थरूर, stating that “some people prioritize Modi over the nation.”
New Delhi: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, while commenting on शशि थरूर, stated that “some people prioritize Modi over the nation.” He made this remark in the context of थरूर’s role in the delegation for Operation Sundar. Alongside this, he also leveled sharp accusations against the Election Commission and the Modi government.
Questions Raised Over थरूर’s Inclusion in Delegation
Under Operation Sundar, the central government has appointed senior Congress leader and MP from Thiruvananthapuram, शशि थरूर, to lead a multi-party delegation. This has sparked dissent within the Congress party. Party President Mallikarjun Kharge questioned थरूर’s appointment and expressed his displeasure at the latter’s consistent praise for Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Kharge’s Sharp Remark – “Some People Prioritize Modi”
During a press conference, Mallikarjun Kharge stated, “We are all together, standing for the country. But there are some who say that Modi comes first, the country later. Shashi थरूर’s English is very good, which is why he has been given a place in the Congress Working Committee.”
This comment is being viewed as an indication of ongoing divisions within the Congress party. Kharge also emphasized the need for the party to work together, rather than getting entangled in praising any individual.
Criticism of the Election Commission
Kharge criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, questioning the impartiality of the Election Commission. He alleged that the Election Commission is now functioning entirely under the Modi government’s control.
He stated, “Modi says he is winning elections. When Rahul Gandhi raised a question, ED went silent. Now, the Election Commission is also working only on the orders of the government. This is a dangerous situation for democracy.”
“Machines are Winning, Not Modi”
Commenting on Prime Minister Modi’s campaign in Bihar, Kharge made a pointed remark, stating, “Modi is not winning elections; machines are winning. Fair elections are the most important in a democracy, but when institutions are not impartial, questions also arise about the results.”
Criticism of Government Propaganda on Emergency
Kharge also criticized the government’s propaganda surrounding the 50th anniversary of the Emergency, calling the issued government circular an electoral tactic. He stated that the BJP wants to defame the opposition by using the Emergency as a weapon, while diverting public attention from the real issues. He added, “Those who are quoting the Constitution today did not contribute to the freedom struggle. They are only using the Constitution for political gain.”
“BJP is Scared of ‘Constitution Save Journey’”
The Congress President stated that the party’s ‘Constitution Save Journey’ is frightening the BJP. He alleged that the ruling party has been completely unsuccessful in governance and is evading issues such as inflation, unemployment, and demonetization. He said, “You don’t attend all-party meetings but hold rallies at Palam. Instead of worrying about the country, only a political agenda is being pursued.”
