President Murmu Vows to Learn Kannada, Emphasizes Linguistic Diversity

President Droupadi Murmu said on Monday that she would try to learn the Kannada language. She emphasized the preservation of India's diverse languages, cultures, and traditions. She made these remarks during the Diamond Jubilee celebration of the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing in Mysuru.

Bengaluru: At the Diamond Jubilee celebration of the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing in Mysuru, Karnataka, President Droupadi Murmu conveyed a message about preserving India's languages, cultures, and traditions, stating that she would try to learn Kannada. The President said on stage, "Kannada is not my mother tongue, but I respect all the languages, cultures, and traditions of my country. I will definitely make a small effort to learn Kannada."

President Emphasizes Conservation of Languages and Culture

The President stated that India's linguistic and cultural diversity is the nation's true identity. She appealed to the public to keep their mother tongues and traditions alive and pass them on to future generations. She called upon all citizens to protect languages and cultural heritage. The President added in her speech that the preservation of languages is essential not only from a cultural perspective but also for social and national unity.

She mentioned that she would personally endeavor to learn the Kannada language and inspire every Indian to respect their mother tongue and cultural traditions.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah Welcomed in Kannada

At the event, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, speaking in Kannada to those present on stage, asked, "Do you know Kannada?" On this occasion, the President expressed her desire to learn the Kannada language and urged everyone to cherish their languages and cultural heritage. In his speech, the Chief Minister said that all those living in Karnataka should learn and use the Kannada language. He also stated that people from various linguistic communities settling in the state should also learn Kannada, which would foster cultural unity and social harmony.

Several prominent leaders were also present at the ceremony. Union Minister Anupriya Patel, Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, and BJP MP Yaduveer Wadiyar also participated in the event. Furthermore, the President was welcomed at the Mysuru airport by Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

A few months ago, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had stated that everyone living in Karnataka should learn Kannada. He also emphasized that other linguistic groups settling in Karnataka should also learn Kannada. His statement had drawn opposition from political parties and some leaders. The Chief Minister has previously advocated for the promotion and increased use of the Kannada language.
