September has begun in Rajasthan with torrential rains. The Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert in 34 districts, with 13 districts warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall. Several accidents have also resulted in loss of life.
Jaipur: September has commenced in Rajasthan with vigorous rainfall. The Meteorological Department has predicted rain in 34 districts of the state on Monday, September 1. Among these, an alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for 13 districts. Alwar, Khairthal-Tijara, Kotputli-Behror, and Jhunjhunu are expected to experience extremely heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, Baran, Bundi, Jaipur, Jhalawar, Kota, Sikar, Churu, Deedwana-Kuchaman, and Nagaur have been warned of heavy rainfall.
In view of the situation, the administration has declared holidays in schools in Alwar, Jhunjhunu, and Tonk districts. District administrations and disaster management teams in rain-affected areas have been put on alert.
Heavy Rainfall Alert Issued for Western Rajasthan Districts
According to the Meteorological Centre Jaipur, the highest rainfall is expected in the eastern parts of the state. The alert for extremely heavy rainfall has primarily been issued for Alwar and Jhunjhunu districts. Here, rainfall significantly above normal is anticipated in the next 24 hours, which may lead to waterlogging in low-lying areas.
Additionally, heavy rainfall is forecast for several districts, including Jaipur, Kota, Sikar, and Nagaur. In Western Rajasthan, barring Balotra, Barmer, Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Phalodi, Hanumangarh, and Ganganagar, almost all districts are likely to experience rainfall.
Clouds Opened Up on Sunday
On Sunday, August 31, the monsoon made a b entry across Rajasthan. Raipur in Jhalawar district recorded 140 mm of rainfall, the highest in the entire state. Jalore received 126 mm, and Todabhim in Karauli recorded 101 mm of rain.
Patan in Sikar received 95 mm, Thanagaji in Alwar recorded 85 mm, and Karauli city saw 72 mm of rainfall. Other districts, including Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Dausa, and Jhunjhunu, also recorded rainfall between 40 to 65 mm. Waterlogging and inundation in low-lying areas in many places disrupted traffic.
Lightning Strike Incident in Sawai Madhopur
Accidents also occurred in several districts due to heavy rain and lightning. In Pali district, a couple was washed away while crossing a culvert, but police personnel present at the scene rescued both. In Sawai Madhopur district, a television exploded due to a lightning strike. One child died in this incident, and seven members of the family sustained burns. The death of one person due to lightning in Chittorgarh has also been confirmed.
In Sirohi district, five youths who went for a bath in the Banas River got trapped in the b current. Four were safely pulled out, but one youth died. These incidents highlight that negligence during the monsoon season can have severe consequences.
Heavy Rainfall Alert for the Next 3-4 Days
The Meteorological Department predicts that the spell of rain will continue in most parts of Rajasthan for the next 3 to 4 days. During this period, heavy and very heavy rainfall is possible in some places.
Rivers, streams, and dams are likely to swell. In such a scenario, people residing in rural areas have been advised to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary movement in low-lying areas. The administration has appealed to the public to pay attention to the advisories issued by the Meteorological Department and follow safety guidelines.
