Historical Background-
According to historian Rajbali Pandey, the ancient name of Gorakhpur was "Ramgram," and the Koliya Republic was established in that region. At that time, the Rapti River flowed through here. Later, when the river's course changed, Ramgarh Tal became its remnant.
Development and Conservation
Development and Conservation
- In 1985, the then Chief Minister Veer Bahadur Singh planned to develop Ramgarh Tal as a tourist center, but this effort remained incomplete after his death.
- In 2017, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath resolved to make it an international-level tourist destination and also initiated conservation efforts under Wetland Management Rules.
- Currently, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) oversees this area and has prohibited any construction within 500 meters of the lake.
- However, the water quality has deteriorated due to sewage generated from the suburban areas settled around it.
Due to the driveway and "boating" complex built along the lake's edge, a nomenclature like "Marine Drive of Purvanchal" has also become popular here.
