Entertainment News: Bollywood superstar Ranveer Singh recently found himself embroiled in a controversy, where he was accused of imitating the Daiva (deity) sequence from the film ‘Kantara’ and hurting religious sentiments. This incident occurred during the closing ceremony of the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) held in Goa, where Ranveer was present on stage, along with ‘Kantara’ director and actor Rishab Shetty himself.

As soon as the video of this incident went viral on social media, Ranveer faced sharp criticism. Following the escalating controversy and trolling, the actor has now publicly apologized and offered his clarification.

What happened at the IFFI Closing Ceremony?

In fact, during a light-hearted moment at the IFFI closing ceremony, Ranveer Singh imitated the Daiva avatar inspired by the climax scene of ‘Kantara: Chapter 1’. During this, he referred to Chamundi Daiva, who is considered a revered folk deity in the coastal regions of Karnataka. Ranveer also spoke some dialogues on stage, acting in the style of the Daiva, but during this, he compared the deity to a “female ghost.” While some people present at the ceremony did laugh at this, as soon as its video surfaced on social media, people's anger erupted.

A large number of users on social media called Ranveer Singh's act an insult to faith and folk traditions. Many people associated with Karnataka and its coastal regions described it as an act of mocking the Daiva tradition. The matter became even more serious when the Hindu Janajagruti Samiti (HJS) lodged an official complaint against Ranveer Singh. The organization alleged that the actor had incited religious sentiments by misrepresenting Chamunda Devi and the Daiva tradition.
