Red Alert Issued in Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada Amidst Heavy Rainfall

Red alert has been issued in Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada district due to heavy rains. Schools, colleges and Anganwadi centers have been closed. The administration has warned fishermen not to go to sea.

Karnataka Heavy Rain: Continuous heavy rains in the coastal areas of Karnataka have disrupted public life. A red alert has been declared in many parts of Dakshina Kannada district, and schools and colleges have been closed. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of more rainfall in the coming days, due to which the administration has taken strict security measures.

Schools and Colleges Closed in Dakshina Kannada District

On Thursday, holidays were declared in Anganwadi centers, primary and high schools, and pre-University colleges in all areas of Dakshina Kannada district except Sullia and Belthangady taluks. This decision has been taken by the district administration in view of the red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This alert has been issued in view of the possibility of heavy rains.

Heavy Rain Disrupts Public Life

Dakshina Kannada district has been experiencing continuous intermittent rains since Tuesday. Due to this, problems like waterlogging on roads, falling of trees and disruption of traffic are being seen. The administration has urged all parents to keep children away from low-lying areas, lakes, beaches and river banks.

Warning to Fishermen, Administration Alert

The administration has issued a strict warning to fishermen not to go to sea. Also, tehsil level officers have been instructed to compulsorily be present at their respective headquarters so that immediate action can be taken in case of any emergency.

This year, a total of 3,026 millimeters of rain has been recorded in Dakshina Kannada district so far. This is about one and a half times more than the normal average of 2,091 millimeters. 32 millimeters of rain has been recorded in the district in the last 24 hours.

Loss of Life and Property Due to Heavy Rains

So far, six people have lost their lives in the district due to heavy rains. Apart from this, 104 houses have been completely damaged and 1,127 houses have been partially damaged. Due to heavy rains, rivers are in spate and flood-like conditions have arisen in many areas.

Red Alert in Other Coastal Districts Too

Not only Dakshina Kannada, but red alert has also been issued in other coastal districts of Karnataka like Udupi and Uttara Kannada. Heavy rains are occurring in these districts as well and the situation is being continuously monitored. The Meteorological Department has also issued a red alert for Goa and has warned of very heavy rains here.

Rain Likely to Continue Till Next Week

According to the India Meteorological Department, heavy rain with b winds is likely to continue in many parts of Karnataka till next week. The speed of winds can reach 40 to 50 kilometers per hour. After this prediction of the Meteorological Department, the state government and local administration are fully alert.
