The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is holding an important Apex Council meeting online today, during which a significant decision regarding the leadership of the Indian men’s T20 International team is expected. According to reports, discussions may take place on removing current captain Suryakumar Yadav from the T20I captaincy. It remains unclear whether a formal vote or final decision on the captaincy change will take place during the meeting, but the possibility of discussions on the matter has not been ruled out.

Suryakumar Yadav was appointed captain of India’s T20 International team following the country’s T20 World Cup triumph in 2024. Several players have been linked with the Indian T20 captaincy. The reported contenders include:

Some of these players have previously held leadership roles, making the selection process particularly significant.

India’s next T20 International assignment is the tour of Ireland, where two matches are scheduled to be played on June 26 and June 28. The team will then play a five-match T20 series against England.

In addition, a three-match series against Zimbabwe has also been proposed. The schedule is expected to provide an opportunity for India to test new combinations and strategies.
