RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat met with Muslim religious leaders in Delhi. The aim of this meeting was to strengthen mutual dialogue and promote harmony. This initiative by RSS and MRM is a topic of discussion.
RSS Meeting: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat recently held an important meeting with Muslim religious leaders and intellectuals at Haryana Bhavan in Delhi on July 24th. The purpose of this meeting was to deepen dialogue with the Muslim community, promote social harmony, and take concrete initiatives to resolve existing differences.
The RSS's top leadership was also present at the meeting. Key figures such as General Secretary Dattatreya Hosabale, Joint General Secretary Krishna Gopal, senior leader Ramlal, and Muslim Rashtriya Manch (MRM) convenor Indresh Kumar were present. From the Muslim side, approximately 50 clerics and Muslim scholars, including All India Imam Organisation chief Umar Ahmed Ilyasi, participated in the meeting.
MRM's Role and Campaign
This meeting was not sudden but is based on a well-planned social initiative. The RSS-affiliated organization, Muslim Rashtriya Manch (MRM), has been working to strengthen the dialogue process with the Muslim community for the past few years. In 2023, MRM planned to launch a nationwide campaign aimed at promoting the spirit of "One Nation, One Flag, One National Anthem" and encouraging unity in religious diversity.
Dialogue Held in 2022 as Well
This is not the first time Mohan Bhagwat has engaged in open dialogue with the Muslim community. In September 2022, he also met with several senior Muslim intellectuals in the country. During that meeting, open discussions were held on sensitive issues such as the Gyanvapi Mosque dispute, Hijab, and population control.
The meeting included prominent figures such as former Chief Election Commissioner SY Quraishi, former Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, former AMU Vice-Chancellor Lieutenant General Zameer Uddin Shah, former MP Shahid Siddiqui, and Syed Sherwani. These efforts indicated that the RSS is working towards mutual understanding and cooperation, rather than just one-sided dialogue.
Indresh Kumar's Social Engagement
RSS leader Indresh Kumar, considered a key strategist for MRM, visited the Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah in Delhi in October 2022. He lit earthen lamps there, conveying a message of communal harmony. This symbolic act was also an effort towards dialogue and trust-building within the Muslim community.
