Samay Raina Faces Controversy: Supreme Court Hearing and Social Media Backlash

Renowned stand-up comedian and YouTuber Samay Raina has once again found himself at the center of controversy. He is accused of ridiculing disabled individuals, specifically those suffering from Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) and blindness, during his comedy show, "India's Got Latent." This issue has sparked outrage across the country, leading to the filing of FIRs against him.

Following this controversy, Samay Raina was required to appear before the Supreme Court on Tuesday. Four other social media influencers, facing similar accusations, were also present.

FIRs Filed Against Samay Raina

The controversy originated from a lighthearted joke, but it quickly escalated into a national debate. After clips went viral on social media, numerous social organizations and the general public deemed Samay Raina's comments offensive and insensitive. Subsequently, FIRs were filed against him in various cities.

Social media users allege that Samay Raina repeatedly made objectionable remarks about disabled individuals during the show, causing emotional distress.

Court Appearance and Viral Statement

During the hearing in the Supreme Court on Tuesday, when the media questioned Samay Raina, he initially denied making any comments and stated,
"I will give my statement in court."

However, when a journalist repeatedly pressed for a reaction, Samay Raina, in a lighthearted manner, replied,
"I support Charming Mars."

This response quickly went viral on social media. While some found it humorous, many users considered it irresponsible, especially given the sensitive nature of the issue.

Mixed Reactions on Social Media

Samay Raina's statement has elicited mixed reactions on social media. While his fans are supporting the statement, attributing it to his humor style, other users see it as trivializing a serious matter.

As soon as the clip went viral, #SamayRaina began trending on Twitter and Instagram. Many users advised him to be sensitive, while others demanded strict action against him.

Photo with Lawyer Also Went Viral

After the court appearance, Samay Raina shared a photo with his lawyer, Himanshu Shekhar, on his Instagram story, referring to him as "main man." He shared this photo in a jovial manner, again reflecting his humor.

Even after this story, there was considerable discussion on social media about whether a comedian should use their humor in such serious cases.

Supreme Court Hearing

The case was heard by a bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalyo Bagchi. The court recorded the presence of all five accused and directed them to submit their statements in writing. In addition, the court ordered Samay Raina to appear in person at the next hearing.

The date for the next hearing of this case will be set soon. Meanwhile, the petitioners have demanded strict action against all the accused.
