Following a key meeting of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) National Executive Committee at the residence of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, party MP Kalyan Banerjee announced several organizational changes within the party.
The ruling party in West Bengal has appointed senior leader Chandrima Bhattacharya as the President of its West Bengal unit. The decision was taken during the National Executive Committee meeting held at Mamata Banerjee’s residence.
The party has also introduced several changes to its national organizational structure. Senior leaders Derek O'Brien and Dola Sen have been appointed National Joint Secretaries. They will work alongside National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee to strengthen organizational activities and enhance the party’s national-level operations.
According to sources, the changes have been made with the objective of making the organization more effective and better coordinated.
Several new appointments have also been made at the state level. Along with Chandrima Bhattacharya’s appointment as state president, senior leaders including Sajida Ahmed and Naina Bandyopadhyay have been given responsibilities as vice presidents. The party said the aim is to make the state organization more active and ber.
The change in the state leadership was made due to the ill health of current state president Subrata Bakshi. The party leadership stated that the decision is temporary but necessary to ensure that organizational work continues without disruption.
The TMC has also assigned new responsibilities in its women’s and youth wings. Sayoni Ghosh will continue to lead the Youth Trinamool Congress, while Mala Roy has been appointed President of the All India Trinamool Mahila Congress. Priyanka Adhikari will now lead the party’s student wing.
The party has also made new appointments to strengthen its media and communication strategy. Kalyan Banerjee and Derek O'Brien have been given responsibility as national spokespersons, while Kunal Ghosh will continue to serve as the party’s official spokesperson at the state level.
The meeting took place amid reports of alleged factionalism and dissatisfaction within the party. Several senior legislators and Members of Parliament attended the high-level meeting in Kolkata, where organizational unity and strategy were discussed.
However, the party leadership rejected such claims and said that all decisions were taken to strengthen the organization and effectively counter opposition politics.
