The wait for the UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026 and Indian Forest Service (IFS) Preliminary Examination results may end soon, with the results expected to be declared by June 10. After the announcement, candidates will be able to check their qualification status and search for their roll numbers in the merit list.
Millions of candidates who appeared for the examinations conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) are awaiting the results. The examinations were held on May 24, 2026, at centres across the country. Following the examination, the commission released a provisional answer key and invited objections from candidates until May 31.
Based on the pattern of result announcements in previous years, the UPSC Preliminary Examination 2026 result is expected to be released during the second week of June. The commission has not yet confirmed an official result date. However, with the examination and answer key processes completed, the result preparation process is expected to be in its final stages. Candidates have been advised to regularly monitor the official UPSC website for updates.
The UPSC Preliminary Examination is the first stage of the Civil Services selection process. Only candidates who qualify in the preliminary examination become eligible to appear for the Main Examination. The result is therefore a crucial milestone for millions of aspirants. Every year, a large number of candidates appear for the examination, but only those meeting the prescribed cut-off qualify for the next stage.
Along with the result, the commission is expected to publish the list of qualified candidates. The list is generally released in PDF format and contains the roll numbers of successful candidates. Candidates will be able to verify whether they have qualified for the Main Examination by checking their roll numbers in the list.
Information related to top-performing candidates may also emerge after the result announcement. However, the All India Rank (AIR) and final toppers list are generally released only after the completion of the entire selection process. The official list of candidates qualifying in the preliminary examination is made available with the result.
Candidates awaiting the result can use this period to strengthen their preparation for the Main Examination, which is considered the most important stage of the Civil Services selection process. The examination assesses candidates’ subject knowledge, analytical ability and writing skills.
The Main Examination consists of a total of nine papers covering various subjects, on the basis of which candidates are evaluated.
Candidates who qualify in the Main Examination are subsequently called for the Personality Test, or interview. The final merit list is prepared based on marks obtained in the Main Examination and the interview. Appointments to services including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and other central services are made according to the final merit list. The announcement of the preliminary examination result will determine the next stage of the selection process for millions of candidates.
