Uttar Pradesh Government Seeks Extension for Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh

Uttar Pradesh Government Seeks Extension for Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh

There is a growing possibility of an extension for Manoj Kumar Singh, the Chief Secretary and a senior IAS officer of Uttar Pradesh. The state government has sent a formal proposal to the central government to extend his services for another year. Manoj Kumar Singh's current term is set to end on July 31, 2025, but the government is trying to keep him in the post of Chief Secretary until 2026. The decision now rests with the central government.

Development in the State Accelerated During the Chief Secretary's Tenure

In the proposal, the state government has particularly highlighted the important work done by Manoj Kumar Singh during his tenure. He played a significant role in strengthening the industrial environment in Uttar Pradesh, promoting investment, and taking the state's economy to $1 trillion. Manoj Kumar Singh, a 1988 batch IAS officer, is currently also the Chairman of the Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (IIDC) and PICUP.

Discussion of Potential Candidates for the Chief Secretary Post

If Manoj Kumar Singh does not get an extension, the names of three senior officers are being discussed for the post of Chief Secretary in Uttar Pradesh. Among them, the name of IAS officer S.P. Goyal, considered close to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is most prominent. Additionally, IAS Deepak Kumar, based on seniority, is also a contender for the post. Furthermore, IAS Deepak Chaturvedi is currently on central deputation in Delhi, so there is uncertainty about his inclusion in this race. However, considering his seniority, his name is also occasionally mentioned.

All eyes are now on the central government's decision, which could provide clarity regarding the Chief Secretary's extension or the appointment of a new Chief Secretary in the next few days.
