Varanasi Development Authority (VDA) is preparing to illuminate Kashi's historic ghats and major religious sites with new lighting. The plan to install facade lighting at 10 important sites in the city has been approved. A cost of approximately 24 crore rupees has been allocated for this.
Under this project, modern LED lighting will be installed at several important locations including Dashashwamedh Ghat, Assi Ghat, Kedareswar Ghat, and Panchganga Ghat. The objective is to present Kashi's cultural and spiritual heritage in an attractive form even at night, thereby increasing the number of tourists.
According to officials, facade lighting will not only promote night tourism but also strengthen the local economy. The illuminated ghats and temples will appear safe and attractive even at night, potentially benefiting hotels, local shopkeepers, and boatmen.
Additionally, the goal is to strengthen the city's identity on a global level. The authority believes that the new lighting system will present Varanasi in a new light and give a new direction to cultural tourism.
Overall, this project is considered a major step towards making Kashi as grand and vibrant at night as it is during the day.
