The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Rajasthan, which is leading the fight against corruption, has come under scrutiny itself after ₹9.35 lakh in cash was recovered from the car of a senior officer in Jaipur. The money was found in the personal car of ACB Additional SP Jagram Meena, leading to a stir. The action was taken by the ACB headquarters' Special Unit-II, which, acting on a tip-off, stopped and searched Meena's car near the Shivdaspura toll plaza.
During the search, the cash was found hidden under the car seats and was immediately seized. Meena is currently being interrogated, and a separate ACB team is investigating the source and purpose of the cash. This incident occurred on Thursday evening, and its revelation has raised questions about the credibility of the ACB.
ACB on the Test of Zero Tolerance Policy
Additional SP Jaideep Rathore of the ACB headquarters described this action as part of the agency's 'zero tolerance' policy against corruption. He clarified that no matter how senior an officer is, strict action will be taken against them if any wrongdoing is found.
Rathore said that the ACB's objective is a corruption-free administration, and if any officer comes under suspicion, the agency will not show any leniency in its investigation. He assured that the matter would be investigated fairly, and if necessary, legal action would be taken against the accused officer.
Continuous Interrogation of Meena
ACB officer Jagram Meena has been called to the agency office for questioning, where he is being questioned about the source of the cash. So far, no concrete answers have come from Meena, and he is also avoiding the media.
According to sources, Meena is currently refraining from making any statement. ACB officials said that documents related to the cash transactions are also being examined to ascertain whether the amount was part of any deal.
Crisis on the Agency's Reputation
While the ACB was strengthening its image through raids and arrests against corrupt officials, the recovery of cash from the car of one of its own officers has dealt a severe blow to the agency's credibility. The issue is also being widely discussed on social media, with people questioning whom the public can trust when officers of the anti-corruption agency are found to be involved in wrongdoing.
A thorough investigation of the entire matter is currently underway. The agency has assured that no guilty person will be spared, and disciplinary and legal action will be taken against Jagram Meena after the investigation is completed.
