The Indian equity market opened Tuesday’s trading session with a marginal gain. The BSE Sensex opened 42.51 points, or 0.06%, higher at 74,901.50, while the NSE Nifty 50 opened 39.75 points, or 0.17%, higher at 23,454.05.
The domestic equity market began the second trading session of the week on Tuesday, September 22, with both benchmark indices in positive territory. The gains remained limited in early trading, while several major IT stocks opened lower. Shares of Trent, IndiGo, Asian Paints and several other major companies opened higher.
The BSE Sensex opened 42.51 points, or 0.06%, higher at 74,901.50 on Tuesday. The NSE Nifty 50 index opened 39.75 points, or 0.17%, higher at 23,454.05. The domestic equity market had recorded gains on Monday.
In early trading, buying was seen in select large companies, while pressure on IT stocks limited the gains in the broader market.
Of the 50 companies in the Nifty 50 index, 40 stocks opened higher, while 10 stocks began trading lower. Of the 30 Sensex constituents, 21 stocks opened higher, seven declined and two remained unchanged at the opening level.
Among the major Sensex companies, Trent shares recorded the best opening, gaining around 1.07%. IndiGo shares opened 0.95% higher, while Asian Paints gained 0.87%.
Larsen & Toubro (L&T) shares opened 0.59% higher and Adani Ports gained 0.56%. Titan and Power Grid opened 0.49% higher each. Sun Pharma and NTPC also gained 0.44% each.
SBI and Maruti Suzuki opened 0.36% higher each, while BEL gained 0.35%. Kotak Mahindra Bank and HDFC Bank opened 0.33% higher each. Eternal gained 0.33%, Bajaj Finserv rose 0.27% and Mahindra & Mahindra gained 0.26%.
Reliance Industries opened 0.16% higher, Hindustan Unilever gained 0.12%, ITC rose 0.09% and ICICI Bank gained 0.05%.
IT stocks came under pressure in early Tuesday trading. Tech Mahindra shares opened 0.94% lower and were among the weakest-performing Sensex constituents in early trading. HCL Technologies declined 0.87%, Infosys fell 0.56% and TCS declined 0.50%.
IT stocks remained under pressure for the second consecutive trading session.
