The Ayodhya Ram Temple Trust has introduced two-factor authentication for employee logins to its website, requiring an OTP from a two-factor authentication app after the password is entered. The additional security layer was implemented within four to five days after the temple website was hacked.
Employees accessing the Ram Temple Trust website must now complete a two-step login process. After entering their password, they are required to enter an OTP generated by a two-factor authentication app. The website portal can be accessed only after the OTP is verified.
The same process will be followed for issuing Ram Lalla darshan passes. Employees at the pass counters have started testing the new system, and passes are being issued through the updated process.
The Ram Temple website was hacked in the past few days. The incident was followed by discussions surrounding the alleged unauthorised creation and sale of darshan passes. The Trust subsequently began making changes to the website's security system.
Officials from the Trust's engineering department informed the trustees about the website hack, following which the process of adding security features was initiated. The changes were implemented within about four to five days.
Software expert Gaurav Saxena said that additional security measures such as two-factor authentication for logins help prevent cyber intrusions. TCS is responsible for the technical work associated with the Ram Temple website.
The same software is used to issue daily darshan passes and aarti darshan passes. The online donation process at around a dozen donation counters is also operated through the same system. A Trust official confirmed the security changes and said that further improvements are still required for the convenience of devotees.
