Bihar Elections: Jitan Ram Manjhi Declares 'Do or Die' Battle for HAM to Gain Recognized Party Status

Political fervor has intensified in Bihar politics lately, with every political party diligently honing its strategies. Amidst this, Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) founder and Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi has made a significant statement regarding the upcoming assembly elections.

Patna: In the political landscape of Bihar, Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) founder and Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi has declared the upcoming assembly elections as a ‘do or die’ battle for his party. Manjhi expressed his displeasure over the party not achieving the status of a recognized party even after ten years of its formation and has expressed his intention to commit all his strength to the electoral battlefield this time.

Two Potential Paths for the Party

Manjhi clarified that there are two options for any party to become a recognized party. First, winning at least eight seats in the assembly. Second, securing at least six percent of the total votes. He stated that HAM is now considering two potential strategies to achieve these goals.

  • Contesting elections as part of the NDA alliance: According to Manjhi, the first path involves the party contesting elections as a constituent of the NDA alliance in at least 15 seats, and winning at least eight of them.
  • Independent strategy: The second option is for the party to field candidates in 50 to 100 seats across the state and secure an average of over 10,000 votes in each constituency.

Manjhi stated that the final decision will be made by the party leadership, but if he is granted the authority to make strategic moves, he will take necessary decisions considering the political dynamics.

Jitan Ram Manjhi's Political Experience

Jitan Ram Manjhi has played several significant roles in Bihar's politics. He founded the HAM party after resigning from the Chief Minister's post in 2015 to facilitate Nitish Kumar's return. Regarding the party's current status, he mentioned that despite ten years, the party remains only a registered entity and has not attained the status of a recognized party.

Manjhi remarked, "This is an insult to both me and the party. Therefore, this assembly election will be a do or die battle for us." He further added that HAM will make every possible effort to establish its b presence in Bihar's politics. Jitan Ram Manjhi's family also has a significant contribution to the HAM party. His son, Santosh Kumar Suman, is currently the national president of the party and a minister in the Bihar government. Additionally, his wife, Deepa Manjhi, and mother-in-law, Jyoti Devi, are also MLAs. Despite this, the party continues to remain in the category of an unrecognized party.
