The Election Commission has announced the second phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list. Under this campaign, the accuracy of voter data will be checked in 12 states, including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, and Gujarat.

SIR Campaign 2025: The Election Commission of India announced on Monday that a special intensive revision of the voter list will be initiated in 12 states across the country. These include major states like UP, MP, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. The objective of this initiative is to update the voter list, remove duplicate names, and add new eligible voters, ensuring the list is completely accurate and transparent before the upcoming elections.

33.87 Crore Voters in Five States, SIR Campaign to Begin

The Election Commission of India has announced the implementation of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in 12 states across the country. These include large states such as Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. The Commission's objective is to update the voter list by adding eligible voters and removing duplicate or ineligible names, thereby maintaining transparency and reliability in the upcoming elections.

This campaign is expected to improve the voter list. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit every household to verify data and rectify errors. The Commission has clarified that no additional documents will be required under SIR, and voters will be able to fill online forms even if they reside outside their constituency.

How Many Voters are in These Five States – See Full Data

According to the latest data released by the Commission, a total of 33 crore 87 lakh 83 thousand voters are registered in these five states. The state-wise figures are as follows –

  1. Chhattisgarh: 21,230,000
  2. Gujarat: 50,839,000
  3. Madhya Pradesh: 57,405,000
  4. Rajasthan: 54,885,000
  5. Uttar Pradesh: 154,424,000

Among these, Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of voters with 15.44 crore, while Chhattisgarh has approximately 2.12 crore registered voters. The Commission will pay special attention to correcting errors and adding new eligible voters during the update of the electoral rolls in these states.

Intensive Revision to be Conducted for Lok Sabha and Assembly Constituencies

Combined, these five states have 171 Lok Sabha and 1105 Assembly constituencies. During the SIR campaign, one Booth Level Officer (BLO) will be deployed at each booth, and one Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) will be deployed in each assembly constituency. They will scrutinize every name in the voter list to remove duplicate or inactive names.

The Election Commission stated that updating the voter list through SIR will bring transparency to the voting process. Providing correct information to every voter and registering accurate names is the primary objective of this campaign. This will further strengthen public trust in the electoral process.
