In Jalandhar, both brothers-in-law of the absconding accused Prince were arrested for allegedly harboring him in the hit-and-run case involving Richie K.P., son of former minister Mohinder Singh K.P. Bailable sections have been invoked against both.

Jalandhar: The police have taken a new turn in the hit-and-run case involving Richie K.P., son of former minister Mohinder Singh K.P., in Jalandhar, Punjab. Both of his brothers-in-law—Gurpreet Singh and Tarnjeet Singh—have been arrested on charges of harboring the absconding accused Gursharan Singh Prince, a textile merchant from Shekhan Bazar. Bailable sections have been invoked against the accused at the police station level, but late into the night, the police were seeking legal advice to facilitate their release on bail. Prince has been absconding for eight days now.

Horrific Accident on the Night of September 13

Police investigation revealed that a horrific accident occurred late on the night of September 13. Richie K.P. was returning home in his Fortuner car. At that moment, his vehicle collided with a Creta driven by a resident of GTB Nagar. Richie K.P. sustained serious injuries on the spot in the accident and was immediately taken to the hospital, but doctors declared him dead. In the same accident, family members traveling in a Grand Vitara—Vishu, his daughter, and wife—were also injured.

After this incident, the Creta driver, Prince, abandoned his car at the scene and fled. Police initially registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Investigations also revealed that his brothers-in-law were actively involved in helping Prince and facilitating his legal processes while he was absconding.

Lawyer Refuses to Represent Absconding Prince in Bail Hearing

The hearing for the absconding Prince's anticipatory bail has been scheduled in the court of Additional Sessions Judge Dr. Deepti Gupta. However, Prince's lawyer, Mandeep Singh Sachdeva, has refused to fight the case and will not appear for the hearing. Both the police and the court are vigilant regarding Prince's legal complexities and the bail process.

It is noteworthy that former minister Mohinder Singh K.P. himself is a senior lawyer, and he informed the police that the accused fled after his son's demise. The police stated that raids were also conducted at the homes of Prince's brothers-in-law, Gurpreet and Tarnjeet, in search of him.

Brothers-in-Law Who Aided Prince Arrested

Police also revealed the alleged role of both brothers-in-law in harboring and assisting the absconding Prince. Gurpreet Singh is a resident of New Jawahar Nagar, and Tarnjeet Singh is from Ludhiana; both are involved in the textile business. Police have arrested them and initiated a thorough investigation into the matter.

Officials stated that, according to the law, individuals who assist in such cases also fall within the purview of crime. Police are now investigating Prince's escape and his network to identify other individuals involved in the case.

Police Appeal for Public Cooperation and Vigilance

Police officials have appealed to the public to cooperate in the investigation and not pay heed to any rumors. Strict legal action will be taken against the accused once the investigation is complete. The police are ensuring that appropriate action is taken not only against the main accused but also against his collaborators.

This hit-and-run case has heightened concerns about safety and road accidents in the city. The local administration and police remain vigilant, and continuous efforts are underway to apprehend Prince.
