Amidst the political uproar in Bihar over voter list verification, BJP MP and Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut has launched a scathing attack on the opposition. Kangana termed the opposition's protest as irresponsible, saying that these parties are only creating a ruckus and making a mockery of democracy.
Opposition is Insulting Democracy
Kangana Ranaut, who was formerly an MLA from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, and is now an MP from Delhi, reacted to the ongoing stalemate in Parliament. She said that the opposition has no solid issue left, so they are only creating noise by going into the well of the house.
Kangana questioned whether disrupting parliamentary proceedings every day has now become democracy. She said that it is extremely unfortunate to undermine the dignity of the House and stifle the values of the Constitution. She appealed to the public to understand the truth and ignore such irresponsible behavior.
What is the SIR Process and Why the Controversy?
Ahead of the 2025 assembly elections in Bihar, the State Election Commission has started the 'Special Intensive Revision' (SIR) process to update the voter list. This process was initiated on June 24, 2025. Under this, duplicate, deceased, and transferred names will be removed from the voter list, and new eligible voters will be added.
According to the commission, the draft voter list will be released on August 1, while the final list will be published on September 30, 2025. The aim is to ensure fair and transparent elections.
Allegations of the Opposition
There is a heated debate in the Bihar Legislative Assembly regarding this verification process. Opposition parties have alleged that certain communities are being targeted through it, and it is a biased step.
On the other hand, the BJP has described it as a step to strengthen the democratic process. Party leaders say that this process will increase electoral transparency and prevent fraudulent voting.
Kangana Ranaut's statements are being considered a part of the BJP's strategy, under which it now wants to make this issue a subject of national debate by taking it out of the state. Kangana's statement has come at a time when the monsoon session of Parliament is underway, and the opposition is constantly trying to corner the government on this issue.
