A Volvo bus traveling from Hyderabad to Bengaluru caught fire after colliding with a motorbike in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh. In the accident, 20 passengers were burnt to death and 11 were injured; an investigation is underway.
Kurnool: A horrific road accident occurred in Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh, early this morning. A Kaveri Travels Volvo bus, en route from Hyderabad to Bengaluru, collided with a motorbike and was engulfed in a massive fire. At least 20 passengers were burnt to death in the accident. Meanwhile, 21 people managed to break the bus windows and jump out, saving their lives.
Kurnool police reported that a total of 41 people, including two drivers, were on board the bus. So far, the bodies of 11 deceased have been recovered, while the search for others continues. The police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) in the case and initiated an investigation.
Bus and Bike Collision in Chinna Tekur
According to information, the accident occurred around 3 AM today when the bus collided with a motorbike near Chinna Tekur, and due to fuel leakage, the bus caught fire within minutes. After the fire broke out, the bus door became jammed, trapping many passengers inside.
The auxiliary driver on board the bus stated that he initially tried to extinguish the fire, but when it could not be controlled, he, along with some passersby, broke the bus windows. This effort saved the lives of 21 passengers, while 20 passengers were burnt to death.
Identification of Deceased and Injured in the Accident

Upon receiving information about the accident, fire brigade and police teams rushed to the spot. The injured were immediately admitted to the Kurnool Government Hospital. Officials stated that the fire was so intense that the bus was completely gutted.
The District Collector stated that a list of people aboard the bus is being prepared, and the process of identifying the deceased and injured is underway. He assured that a complete investigation into the accident would be conducted, and those responsible would be punished.
Bus Drivers Abscond After Accident
A total of 41 people, including two drivers, were on board the bus. Both drivers are currently absconding, and the police are searching for them. According to passengers, after the fire broke out, the bus doors became jammed, trapping people inside.
The police are now investigating how the fire started inside the bus and whether there was any negligence or technical fault involved. Preliminary investigations suggest that the collision between the bus and the motorbike was the main cause of the accident.
Police Initiate Investigation into the Accident
Kurnool police have registered an FIR for the accident and initiated a detailed investigation. Officials state that the responsibility of the bus owner and driver will also be examined. Additionally, parts of the bus have been secured for technical examination. The police and administration have heightened vigilance across the area and are working rapidly on the causes of the accident and the identification of the deceased.
