Neha Kakkar, one of India’s popular playback singers, has turned 38. Known for her voice and a string of hit songs, her journey from modest beginnings to becoming a prominent name in Bollywood reflects years of work and perseverance.
Neha Kakkar was born on June 6, 1988, in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. Her family later moved to Delhi in search of better opportunities. Her father, Rishikesh Kakkar, supported the family by selling samosas outside schools. Despite financial difficulties, the family continued to encourage the musical talents of their children. Her brother Tony Kakkar and sister Sonu Kakkar are also active in the music industry and have established their own careers.
Neha developed an interest in music at an early age. She began singing bhajans and performing at religious events when she was four years old. Accompanying her sister Sonu Kakkar to Mata ki Chowki and jagran programmes, she performed devotional songs and reportedly earned around Rs 500 per event. These performances marked the beginning of her musical journey.
A major turning point came when Neha participated in the second season of the reality show Indian Idol while she was studying in Class 11. Despite her singing abilities, she was eliminated from the competition after receiving fewer votes. The setback, however, did not end her aspirations, and she continued to focus on improving her music.
In 2008, Neha released her first music album, “Neha The Rockstar,” which helped her gain recognition in the industry. She later moved into Bollywood playback singing. In 2012, she received a major breakthrough with the song “Second Hand Jawani” from the film Cocktail. The song became a hit and strengthened her presence in the film industry.
Neha Kakkar went on to deliver several hit tracks, including “Sunny Sunny,” “Kala Chashma,” “Dilbar,” “Aankh Maarey,” “Aao Raja,” “Main Tera Boyfriend,” and “Mile Ho Tum.” Her vocal style and energetic performances contributed to her popularity among younger audiences.
